The Foreign Correspondents’ Association of East Africa is concerned about reports of the arrest of Kenyan journalist Yassin Juma on July 2, 2020 in Ethiopia. We call for his immediate release by Ethiopian authorities.

The FCAEA is pleased to congratulate Nairobi-based photographer Yasuyoshi Chiba for for winning the World Press Photo of the Year for his moving image of a young man reciting protest poetry during a blackout in Khartoum, Sudan in 2019.

THE FCAEA JOINS THE NATION MEDIA GROUP IN CONDEMNING POLICE BRUTALITY DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK
The Foreign Correspondents' Association of East Africa joins the Nation Media Group (NMG) in condemning acts of police brutality against journalists covering the COVID-19 outbreak and reporting during the subsequent countrywide curfew.

FCAEA JOINS THE FCAU IN CALLING FOR THE RELEASE OF JOURNALIST MOSES BWAYO
The FCAEA joins the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda (FCAU) calls for the immediate release of journalist Moses Bwayo who was arrested in Kampala on Monday evening as he was documenting Bobi Wine record a music video.

STATEMENT ON THE ARRESTS OF TANZANIAN JOURNALISTS
The Foreign Correspondents’ Association of East Africa strongly condemns the recent arrests of Tanzanian journalists and the concerning decline in press freedom in the country.

FCAEA & SJS CONDEMN HARASSMENT OF SOMALI JOURNALISTS
The Foreign Correspondents’ Association of East Africa (FCAEA) and the Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) are extremely concerned by the deteriorating press freedom in Somalia, including restrictions on journalists reporting from blast sites and threats meant to curtail media freedom.
