FCAEA SHOWS 10TH DOCUMENTARY IN POPULAR SCREENING SERIES

In July, the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of East Africa – in partnership with The Alchemist Bar, one of Nairobi’s most popular event spaces – showed “Town of Runners” as the tenth film in our monthly documentary screening series. The event was attended by over 200 people, a mix of both FCAEA members and a wide range of interested Nairobians.

The screening was followed by an insightful Q&A with Kenyan runner and two-time winner of the Linz Marathon, Elias Kiptum, and award-winning anchor and sports journalist Waihiga Mwaura, moderated by FCAEA member and BBC journalist Michael Onyiego. The FCAEA has made the Q&As a key feature of the screenings – inviting members of the production team or guests with particular knowledge of the issues raised in the documentary to contribute their thoughts.

In previous months, FCAEA has shown award-winning documentaries such as “Unarmed Black Man” and “Nobody’s Died Laughing”. After the latter screening about South African satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys, we hosted Kenya’s most syndicated cartoonist Gado, who appeared in conversation with the BBC’s Anne Soy discussing satire and politics.

Our audiences continue to grow each month. We encourage anyone looking for an interesting event on the penultimate Tuesday of the month to stop in at The Alchemist for great films and discussions! The screening usually kicks off around 7.30/8pm. Suggestions for films are welcome – please send them to programmes@fcaea.org.
